2021 Junior Eurovision Reviews – Spain

This year’s Spanish representative Levi Díaz has big shoes to fill, with no Spanish entrant achieving a place outside of the Top 5. While this year’s entry marks just the 7th participation of Spain at Junior Eurovision, the nation has an incredible track record. Will Levi continue the trend with his song, Reír?

Spain is one of those nations that can pinpoint exactly what type of song can succeed at Junior Eurovision, however struggles to do the same for adult Eurovision. Spain gets another big tick this year, with Reír yet another stellar entry. This fast-paced, upbeat entry is catchy, and sure to be a hit at the contest.

While it’s an upbeat entry, it’s still very dynamic. It’s more stripped back at the start, then the pounding beat comes through as the verse progresses and pre-chorus hits. There is a great build up to the explosive chorus. The song has such a great feeling – energetic and still culturally connected.

I am confident in Levi’s ability to pull this off live, despite seemingly being more versed in ballad style songs. He has good control of his vocals, but being such a fast paced and lyric heavy song, it may be challenging.

Performance + Act

Judging by the sneak peak of the choreography during some early rehearsals, I believe we will be in for a great show. Levi will be backed up by dancers, and I suspect it may have a similar vibe to the music video. Levi is expressive through his performance, as we could see during the music video. His experience on The Voice will also help with confidence with cameras.

Conclusions

This definitely has the potential to reach Top 5. It’s energetic, and super likeable. I really do believe this will have a great stage performance, and with that in mind, I can’t see why this wouldn’t receive a high placing.

The 13-year-old singer, winner of the sixth edition of The Voice Kids’ in Spain, has been chosen internally by RTVE. He is a good singer, and an even better performer. The Spanish song is a modern pop song and not one of the easiest to sing in the field of participating songs. Will jurors also pick up on that?

Performance + Act

To win a talent show like The Voice Kids, that means you have to require a certain set of skills to give a live televised tv performance. Levi has that capability, with smiles and charisma. Odds are he will also know how to sell his song for this competition.

Conclusions

The Spanish song is not easily accessible so I am not sure how the public vote will turn out for them. Levi has the appeal to still get in a lot of votes there, and I think also with the jury. He gives solid and professional performances, given his history at The Voice where he obviously learned a lot. I don’t think the song itself is strong and unique enough to go for glory, but Levi could come out of the competition with a strong result.
